Introduction

When it's time to renew your Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and/or Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) competency card, you'll receive a reminder notice by email or SMS approximately 3 months before your card is due to expire.

As part of the renewal process, you need refresher training, which you can do online. When you've completed the training, your new card will be valid for a further 5 years.

RSA and RCG competency cards are available as digital licences. You can view, show, update and renew your competency card via the Service NSW mobile app. To find out more about digital licences, see Get started with digital licences.

More information

  • RSA and RCG competency cards are available as digital licences. You can view, show, update and renew your competency card on the Service NSW mobile app.
  • Each refresher training course takes about 45 minutes to complete.
  • If you have both RSA and RCG competencies, the renewal date on your card is determined by the date you completed the first course. For example, if you have an RSA competency card issued on 1 January 2018, it will expire on 31 December 2023. If you complete an RCG course on 15 January 2020, both RSA and RCG competencies will expire on 31 December 2023.
  • If you didn't receive a renewal notice, then your personal details may not be up to date. You can update your details using this online form.
  • Only refresher training provided online by Liquor & Gaming can renew your card. If your card is still current, you cannot renew it by repeating full courses at approved training organisations.
  • You can find more information on the competency card renewal process on the Liquor & Gaming NSW website.
