Why are we collecting your personal information?

Service NSW (in partnership with Revenue NSW and Regional NSW) is delivering the Northern Rivers Medium Sized Business Grant and the Medium Business Support Grant (the grants) on behalf of the NSW Government. Service NSW is collecting your personal information to administer the grants and for directly related purposes.

Service NSW will only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary to provide you with the required services and assistance.

What personal information do we collect?

Service NSW will collect information such as your name, date of birth, contact details (address, email, and phone number), proof of identity information (such as your driver’s license number, Medicare card details, or information from other identity documents), your bank account details and Australian Business Number (ABN).  

We may ask you to provide additional supporting documentation to satisfy the eligibility requirements for the payment of the grants. That additional supporting information may include personal information.  

If you provide the personal information of another person, you must obtain consent from that person to disclose their personal information to Service NSW for the purpose outlined in this notice.

Service NSW does not require you to disclose your Tax File Number (TFN). If you submit information to us that includes your TFN redact it where possible.  If you are not able to redact your TFN, we will not make use of it for any purpose and will take reasonable security measures to protect it.  

How will we use and disclose this information?

Service NSW will collect your personal information and disclose it to Revenue NSW to administer the Grants.

Service NSW and Revenue NSW may use the personal information we collect about you to:  

  • process your application and determine your eligibility for the grants
  • communicate with you about your application, including to discuss your application or to request additional information
  • verify the information you provide with the relevant public or private entity (including the Document Verification Service)
  • create a MyServiceNSW Business Profile for you if you do not already have one (for more information refer to Service NSW Business Profile
  • conduct auditing, investigation, and compliance activities to: 
  • assess against the terms and conditions
  • investigate any allegations of fraud
  • invite you to participate in a voluntary evaluation of the grants 
  • contact you about other available flood related business support 
  • maintain and use information about you for Service NSW’s internal administrative purposes, including for the purpose of interacting with you; and
  • other directly related purposes. 

Service NSW and Revenue NSW may disclose the information in your application to:   

  • Each other to: 
    • assess your eligibility for the grants 
    • take the necessary action to recover the payment if Service NSW reasonably suspects the terms and conditions for the grants have been contravened.
    • conduct compliance and debt recovery activities.
  • Public or private entities (including the Document Verification Service) to verify the information, you provide in support of your application or request additional information.
  • The Department of Regional NSW or a Commonwealth agency to administer, audit, and evaluate the grants.
  • NSW Police, if Service NSW or Revenue NSW reasonably suspects a case of fraud or other criminal activity.

Service NSW may share de-identified information for research and statistical purposes.  This may include NSW Treasury and/or the Department of Customer Service for the purposes of data analysis and aggregation so that NSW Treasury can analyse and report on the grants. Any report or publications on the evaluation of the grants will not identify any individual that has applied for the grants.

In addition, Service NSW and Revenue NSW may disclose your personal information as follows:

  • To report the matter to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), if Service NSW or Revenue NSW reasonably suspects a case of fraud, other criminal activity, or any type of unsatisfactory professional conduct.
  • Where Service NSW or Revenue NSW has conducted an investigation in response to information provided by ATO, to share the results of that investigation with ATO.
  • To the Australian Transactions Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC), if Service NSW reasonably suspects a case of fraud or other financial crime or has conducted an investigation in response to information provided by AUSTRAC and is sharing the results of that investigation with AUSTRAC.
  • To any regulatory, professional or industry body if Service NSW or Revenue NSW reasonably suspects a case of unsatisfactory professional conduct or any other type of misconduct, including, but not limited to:
    • the Tax Practitioners Board
    • CPA Australia
    • Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
    • the Australian Securities and Investments Commission
    • the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission
    • The Law Society of NSW.

We will not disclose your personal information to anyone else unless you provide your consent, or we are required or authorised to do so by law. This may include disclosure to other NSW or Commonwealth government agencies and partners. Disclosure may also be made to law enforcement, dispute resolution, statutory or regulatory bodies or as required by law.

Service NSW and Revenue NSW will take reasonable security measures to protect your personal information from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification, disclosure, or other misuse. Service NSW will save your application as you go. If you do not complete the application, Service NSW will delete any information collected in partially completed applications after seven days.

Are you required by law to provide us with this information?

Providing us with the requested information is not required by law. If you choose not to provide us with the requested information, we may not be able to process your application.
