When you have the Service NSW app on your phone you can use it to record the date and time you visit a venue displaying a NSW Government COVID-19 QR code.

You can view COVID-19 case alerts for the venues you've visited by checking for a red icon in your check-in history on the Service NSW app.

When you check in to a business using the Service NSW app, only the location of the business and time of visit is recorded. This information is stored for 28 days and only for the purpose of contact tracing, if necessary. It’s a secure way for your information to be stored so you can be contacted easily if required.

How to check in

  1. Ensure you have the latest operating system and latest version of the Service NSW app on your device.

  2. Scan the QR code at the venue with your phone camera – the app's check-in page will automatically open. Or, open the Service NSW app, select the COVID Safe Check-in and scan the QR code. 
  3. Enter your name and phone number if you haven't saved your contact details.
  4. Add dependants (if applicable).
  5. Select ‘Check in’.
  6. A confirmation will appear on your screen when you've successfully checked in.
