Introduction
Your NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) expires after 5 years.
You'll be notified 3 months before its expiry date, and you can renew your Check from this time. Ensure you renew it before it expires – it's illegal to be involved in child-related work without a WWCC.
Note: If your contact details have changed since you applied for your WWCC, and you have not updated them, you may not receive your renewal reminder notification. It's your responsibility to keep your details up to date and to know when your WWCC expires.
What you need
- your WWCC number
- the personal details you provided when you applied for your WWCC (name, date of birth)
- your original proof of identity documentation
- original change of name documentation (if applicable), such as:
- change of name certificate issued by the Australian Registry of Births, Deaths, and Marriages.
- Australian marriage certificate issued by a state or territory (church or celebrant-issued certificates are not accepted).
- Deed Poll.
- your address and contact details
- the child-related sector in which you work
- your payment (if applicable).
How to renew
- Select the 'Renew online' button.
- Complete the online form.
- Check you have the appropriate proof of identity documents, including change of name documentation (if applicable).
- Visit a service centre to present your application receipt, identity documentation and pay the fee (if applicable).
You'll be sent a confirmation email with the new expiry date for your WWCC. Give this information to the employer, organisation or parent who engages you to work with children.
The employer, organisation or parent then re-verifies your WWCC number and the new expiry date, on the Office of the Children's Guardian website.
