How it works

2-step authentication (also known as two-factor authentication or 2FA) is a way of making your MyServiceNSW Account more secure.

When you turn on 2-step authentication, we will use 2 steps to verify that it's really you accessing your account.

This means that each time you log in, you’ll be asked for:

  • your password
  • the SMS confirmation code that will be sent to your mobile number.

You can turn 2-step authentication on or off at any time.

What you need

  • a MyServiceNSW Account
  • an Australian mobile number.

Turn on 2-step authentication

  1. Log in to your MyServiceNSW Account.
  2. Go to 'Manage account'.
  3. Follow the prompts to turn on 2-step authentication.
Note: You’ll be prompted to add or update your mobile number. We will then send an SMS confirmation code to your mobile and ask you to enter the code.

Turn off 2-step authentication

  1. Log in to your MyServiceNSW Account.
  2. Go to 'Manage account'.
  3. Follow the prompts to turn off 2-step authentication.

Updating your mobile number

If you update your mobile number on any of your MyServiceNSW Account services and you’ve turned on 2-step authentication, we will update the mobile number on both the service and on 2-step authentication.

You should only have one mobile number on your account.
